Celebrations > Clambakes ClambakesClambakes have been served on Martha's Vineyard for as long as anyone can remember. The Wampanoag Indians gave us this time-honored method of steaming seafood over hot stones in rockweed. We carry on this tradition for beach parties, your back yard or an open field. Family gatherings are perfect for this classic, delicious menu as we make your event casual, yet dramatic. DINNER Steamers and Mussels from local waters Quahog Chowder Steamed Menemsha 1.5 # Lobsters Grilled Chicken Grilled Corn on the Cob or Cole Slaw Potato Salad or Grilled Potatoes Drawn Butter Poppy Seed Rolls or Corn Bread or Garlic Bread Strawberry Shortcake, Brownies and Watermelon Cookies and Chilmark Chocolates or Assorted Pie or Cobbler For a traditional clambake, we start the day before by collecting the seaweed at low tide. We dig a pit and line it with rocks. Eight hours before serving, we start the fire to heat the rocks. For those who do not have the space to dig a pit, we offer the steamed New England dinner cooked in large pots, laced with rockweed for the authentic flavor. If you wish for us to prepare the New England Dinner at our kitchen, we can bring to your site hot and ready to eat. Lobster trap tables, torches and enclosed fire pits are available to rent. |
